The Practice of Restorative Yoga
Sunday, December 18, 12:00 – 3:00 pm
Restorative yoga is the practice of actively relaxing your body and your mind. By supporting the body in a full range of yoga positions with props including blankets, bolsters, straps and blocks, we alternately stimulate and relax the body and the nervous system and move toward a state of balance and equilibrium. Restorative yoga is effective for relieving fatigue, weakness, chronic stress, anxiety, depression and PTSD, as well as conditions including asthma and other bronchial conditions, headaches, migraines and heart conditions. They stimulate the inner organs and encourage proper functioning of the organic and endocrine systems.
In this workshop you will practice a well-rounded sequence of restorative yoga poses including standing poses, twists, backbends, forward bends and inversions that will help to open your body, balance your emotions and calm your mind. You will understand how restorative yoga affects the physical, physiological and emotional bodies and how you can apply this practice to your own specific needs. |
Therapeutic Pranayama
Sunday, December 18, 4:00 – 6:30 pm
Pranayama is the profound art and science of yogic breathing techniques that creates complete wellness and well-being. Pranayama practice reaches every layer of one’s being – physical, physiological, emotional, mental, and spiritual. It enhances physical health and relieves symptoms of physical imbalances, it nourishes the organic and endocrine systems, it cultivates a calm and balanced mind by balancing the nervous system, and it enhances an intimate connection between us and universal energy. Practicing pranayama changes the habitual tendencies of the energetic and mental bodies by undoing blockages in the energetic body and increasing the flow of prana, the essential and intelligent energy that connects all beings and sustains life, throughout the body.
Specific pranayama techniques will be presented to ease and relieve symptoms of physical and psychoemotional conditions and imbalances. You will learn why, how and when to apply these techniques to address your own needs so that you can create the best life possible for yourself. |
